What’s a farm without a farm-dog?

by Edward Pickering on January 15, 2021
For us - It’s not complete without a dog. Many of our farm visitors remember our Australian Shepherd “Bowie” who we lost over a year ago due to old age!  We’ve missed her daily presence on the farm AND - Our visitors miss seeing her under the shade of the trees or faithfully watching our herd of alpaca from a distance.
In our search for the perfect farm-dog it was important to find a dog needing a forever home from a local shelter or rescue facility, and a non-profit organization that we could get behind and support!
Meet SPIKE a Great Pyrenees/husky mix from TEAM Dog Rescue - which is a grassroots, foster-based, Canadian registered charity run exclusively by volunteers and dedicated to helping all breeds of homeless dogs find their forever homes. Their focus is to rescue local dogs from high-kill and under-resourced shelters across Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba, and dogs in disadvantaged northern communities.
From a shared vision of caring and concern for all, TEAM emerged in 2012 in response to a growing need for support from local shelters. Since their inception, nearly 1000 abandoned, medical, senior and abused dogs have been welcomed into their rescue and are now thriving in loving, forever homes.
From the very beginning, their focus has been to deliver:
  • Education and outreach in our community
  • Emergency medical services for dogs in crisis
  • Safe havens for abandoned, medical, senior and abused dogs in need
  • Strong adoption programs to ensure that each dog in our rescue transitions to a safe, loving home
We look forward to introducing you to “Spike” when the farm re-opens spring 2021!  Until then he is getting settled into our daily rhythm of farm life with us at Chetwyn farms.  In the mean time… Check out their web site www.teamdogrescue.ca and see what amazing work they do to rescue dogs!
