Our Story

How We Started

Drawn to the bucolic fields and vast waterfront vistas of Lake Ontario in Prince Edward County, we settled on a small farm property of 55 acres just outside the village of Wellington. The farm named Chetwyn Farms (Welsh for “little cottage on twisted road”) has been our home for almost 20 years. Combining our interest in sustainable farming, our concern for animal welfare (alpaca are never harmed to harvest fleece) – and our love for the hand-made process we settled on the exquisite and elegant alpaca!

With backgrounds in design, fashion and retail, we ventured into this new lifestyle, learning how to raise alpaca, produce the finest fleece, process small-run yarn and create or curate a collection of alpaca products. Our farm and studio-shop (a converted chicken coop) is now a popular destination in the County and our collaborations with designers, makers and artisans allow us to explore and create all of the product we offer.

Today more than ever hand-made, local and sustainable living are the hallmarks of our business. We celebrate the designers, makers, producers and farmers who strive to create the very best!

The SHED at Chetwyn Farms is a modern-day farm shop located in Prince Edward County– specializing in alpaca yarns and related product.  Housed in a former chicken coop – the SHED is our "pop-up shop" that offers visitors a chance to watch alpaca graze in nearby pastures while shopping for locally spun-yarns, hand-made felted soaps & alpaca accessories, throws and uniquely produced alpaca bean products (organic natural fertilizers).

We define a new aesthetic that represents modern day farming values infused with traditionally crafted design.  As alpaca farmers - We design, make and purvey gifts crafted from alpaca fleece, yarn and related products with authenticity and character. We value the human touch and the purity it reveals either in Canadian hand-made, global fair trade or “one-of-a-find” modern designs.

Our gifts are a commitment to sustaining the farmers and the makers - The ones who are driven to explore and challenge themselves.  We hope you enjoy our curated collections!
