Bird Songs - Taking care of our feathered Friends

Bird Songs - Taking care of our feathered Friends

We love spring on the farm.  The short days and long nights are replaced with longer daylight AND the sounds of birds chirping in the pastures.  This is the time of year we place our fleece feeders out for busy birds to collect scrap bits of alpaca fleece (that can’t be used to make yarn or felt).

Designers we LOVE! Samantha Holmes

Samantha Holmes is a designer we LOVE!  Operating  from her home on the west coast of Scotland, Samantha is an Art and Languages graduate from Edinburgh University,

We first discovered her striking use of subtle shades of pastel colours, luxurious use of woven and knit shawls and capes, AND the most amazing, luxurious socks we have found yet!

The Case For Alpaca: The Ultimate Sustainable Material

The Case For Alpaca: The Ultimate Sustainable Material

Like cashmere, alpaca is a natural fiber, but it is now regarded by many as more luxurious, softer, lighter and warmer than its woollen cousin, thanks to its longer fibers. It also pills less than cashmere and is hypoallergenic as it doesn’t contain any oil or lanolin. Alpaca is lightweight, breathable and soft, not bulky or itchy, and while the fibers are fine they are also incredibly durable, and naturally come in a range of 22 colors, from black through variations of gray, to browns and white.

Winter is upon us early this year at Chetwyn Farms. The alpaca love the early snowfall and colder temperatures after a long, hot and humid summer.
We look forward to the winter too - And holidays in the SHED – where we have created an alpaca farm experience like no other! Shop locally and ethically - with meaning this Christmas. Enjoy our curated collection of alpaca and alpaca related products.
