It’s been a busy summer on the farm - and in particular our farm cottage! Guests have spent quality time on our farm - and many with extended family including grandparents, adult children and grandchildren. It’s the perfect way to spend time with the family enjoying farm views over the pastures, grooming and feeding the senior horses, watching the alpaca go out in the morning and coming back to the barn at night time, and cuddling with three barn kitties - Pekoe, Kevin and Marshmallow.
The location of the farm within Prince Edward County provides easy travel to local wineries, restaurants, brew-pubs and more. Within ten minutes of the farm is Wellington a child-friendly village with a terrific park lakeside annd several kid-friendly restaurants! And what’s a visit to the County without a day at Sandbanks Provincial Park? With one of the most beautiful beaches in the province, this provincial park attracts visitors from around the world!
The farm really lends itself to quality family time, settling into a daily rhythm, watching the rising sun, rolling clouds overhead or the stars at night from the hot tub. Family dinners at the harvest table, hearty breakfasts around the island or day-trips to local favourites for a bite to eat, nothing beats returning home to the cottage…the perfect gathering place.
Doing as much as you can in a day - or simply sitting in the sunroom or on the old front porch and watching the world go by - the cottage is a gentle nod to the loyalist days situated along Closson Road - the “Golden Mile of Prince Edward County”,
Did we mention Christmas in the County? When the snow falls here, it’s snow-white, clean and sets a “Norman Rockwell” scene for enjoying everything the area offers over the holidays. The local villages are decorated, store fronts brimming with holidays favourites concerts, craft shows and festive celebrations take centre place in the area.
Then…. January sets-in with the long days of winter. Surprisingly it’s one of the most beautiful times to be here. The fields are still, there is a calm and quiet that only winter provides. Reading or knitting beside the fire, making comfort foods in the open kitchen or slipping under the warmth of an alpaca duvet for the night - this is winter on the farm. Settle-in and enjoy!
There are many reasons to step into the romance of a farm cottage - what’s yours?
