Exhibition & Pop-Up: “Colour Fields” - Renee Lortie & Michele Macdonald August 21-September 10

“COLOUR FIELDS” -  Punched Rugs & Ceramics

Together, artists Renee Lortie and Michele Macdonald have created a world of tumbling textures, rich colours, and inspired forms. This show features woven tapestries and ceramic sculptures, alongside functional textiles and ceramics. Their work integrates custom colour palettes—crafted from vibrant wool dyes and ceramic stains—to enhance form and texture, resulting in abstract pieces rooted in the natural world

About the Artists:
Renee Lortie is a textile artist currently working at the intersection of art, craft and design. Her intention as an artist is to create a visual, tactile, and emotional experience for the viewer by thoughtfully weaving and stitching meaning with texture and colour.

She creates contemporary art and functional pieces using the old world crafting techniques of weaving and punch needle rug making. Her work is a fresh approach, pushing the boundaries of textile art. She uses natural fibres, often hand dyeing and spinning them for each piece.

Formerly from Toronto, Renee now works in her studio in South Bay, Prince Edward County. Her textile work is held in private collections throughout Canada and the United States.

Michele Macdonald - Starting with an extensive multi year high school arts program, then over to the Ontario College of Art & Design, Fine Arts program, my curiosity of materials lead me through many OCAD departments progressively expanding my creative expression. In classic post-art school style, I started exploring... I went from painter; colourizing movies; furniture builder/designer; prop builder, sculptor, designer; woodworker; graphic designer and back to painter. Then in 2010 I walked through the door of Gladstone Clayworks. All my creative past experience came together into one medium. Clay. My passion and curiosity of colour and form drove me to delve deeply into the chemistry of glaze making and the relationships glaze has with form. I am constantly developing my knowledge of glaze making and can be seen in my ever widening and creative use of colour in my work.
