Intermediate Punch Hooking with Artist Talk
A continuation of Saturdays Punch Hooking 101 - Participants from that beginner’s class can sign up and continue their project in the Sunday Intermediate punch needle workshop & artist talk.    Spend the day punching, sparking creative conversations, and enjoying an artist-led talk about Betty’s journey into fibre art through mindfulness. She’ll be talking about developing her sense of style, choosing subject matter and her ‘slow’ approach to creating. If you’ve mastered the basics of punch needle and want to add more dynamism to your projects, this session is for you. We’ll explore using different Oxford punch needles to create relief and pile heights, developing your own visual aesthetic, and using different finishing techniques. Basic punch needle experience required, please bring your project and the supplies you need.
Students from Saturday’s beginner’s class can continue their project at this collaborative workshop. More informal than the initial session, students can work independently with the tutor on hand to answer questions, make suggestions and offer demonstrations.
About Betty:
Betty Wood (she/her) is a queer Toronto-based fibre artist who works at the intersection of folk craft and fine art. Her ’yarn paintings’ explore the domestic, using plants and furniture to enliven interior spaces recreated in unexpected scales and colours. She works exclusively with hand tools, blending punching, hooking and embroidery techniques and using natural and recycled materials.
