Members VIP Event: Basketry & Beyond - Weaving with Jessica York

Rib Style Willow Basket Workshop - A Member’s only event!  

In this workshop, members, friends & family of Chetwyn Farms will learn to weave a beautiful and functional rib-style willow basket, a traditional form that begins with shaping the rim and creating the basket’s framework. (hoops will be premade and provided as this part of the basket needs to be dry, we will discuss the in's and out's of making the hoops) From there, you’ll learn lashing techniques and how to fill in the structure with weaving and ribs, gaining a solid understanding of this classic style of basketry.

Along the way, we’ll also chat about how willow is grown, gathered, and prepared for weaving—helpful background that adds appreciation for the materials, though not a formal part of the class.

The basket will be offered with either a central handle or side handles, depending on your preference.

  Basketry requires good hand skills and strength. This class may not be suitable for those with moderate to severe arthritis or significantly reduced hand strength.  

Finished Dimensions: Approximately 10–12" in diameter and 7–8" high.
