Don Stinson works at the intersection of material and memory, coaxing form from timber with a turner’s patience and a naturalist’s eye. His vessels do not impose upon the wood — they emerge from it. Grain, bark inclusions, and the quiet irregularities of growth become compositional elements, each piece a document of the tree it once was.

Turned and finished entirely by hand, Stinson’s work resists the uniformity of the manufactured object. What remains is something more considered: an object that holds the presence of its maker and the character of its origin in equal measure.

This small retrospective gathers a selection of works from a singular career — a fitting occasion to reflect on a practice defined by rigour, sensitivity, and a deep fidelity to material. Each piece is offered as it was made: unhurried, particular, and rooted in the land.
