Daily Alpaca Encounters: NEW* this year!

Visiting the Farm? You're Always Welcome.

No booking required to visit Chetwyn Farms. The SHED shop is open for walk-in visitors — browse our alpaca socks, yarn, throws, and blankets, all produced right here on the farm. You're also welcome to see the alpacas from the paddock fence.

Daily Alpaca Encounters are seasonal. Our guided, hands-on encounters with Ted run during summer. Booking an encounter gives you guided access inside the paddock — but simply coming to visit and shop? The door is always open.

🍂 Encounters are finished for the 2026 season. We'll be back next summer — sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when booking opens.

There's something magical about spending time with alpacas. Their gentle curiosity, soft fleece, and calm presence create moments you'll remember long after you leave the farm.

Each summer, we offer daily alpaca encounters designed to give you plenty of time to connect with our herd, learn about these fascinating animals, and discover what makes alpaca fibre so special.

What to Expect

Each encounter is led by Ted, the farm owner, who'll share his knowledge and passion for alpacas, sustainable farming, and premium fibre production.

Your encounter includes:

  • Meet the herd – Get to know our alpacas' unique personalities
  • Hand-feeding – Feel the gentle touch of an alpaca taking treats from your hand
  • Learn about fibre – Discover why alpaca fleece is hypoallergenic, incredibly soft, and warmer than wool
  • Farm tour – see the old bank-barn, meet the horses & more…
  • Ask anything – Ted loves sharing what he's learned about alpaca care, breeding, and sustainable farming
  • Photo opportunities – Capture genuine moments with these beautiful animals

Duration: 45-60 minutes of unhurried time with the alpacas

Why Daily Encounters?

We've found that scheduled encounters create the best experience for everyone—especially the alpacas. With consistent routines, our herd is calm, curious, and happy to interact. You'll have time to observe their natural behaviours, ask questions as they come up, and really get to know these remarkable animals.

Smaller groups mean more personal attention, better photo opportunities, and space for real conversations about everything from fibre grading to what alpacas eat (spoiler: they're picky!).

Perfect For

  • Families looking for a meaningful farm experience
  • Fibre lovers who want to see where premium alpaca products begin
  • Anyone curious about sustainable farming and animal care
  • Makers and crafters interested in natural fibres
  • Visitors to Prince Edward County seeking authentic local experiences

More Than Just Photos

Yes, you'll take amazing photos—alpacas are incredibly photogenic! But you'll also leave with something deeper: an understanding of where your natural fibre products come from, memories of genuine connection with gentle animals, and maybe a new appreciation for the craft of sustainable farming.

Many of our visitors tell us they came for the alpacas and left as fibre enthusiasts. There's something about feeling the softness of freshly shorn fleece or watching an alpaca's ears perk up when you approach that changes how you think about the products you bring home.

After Your Encounter

Before you leave, explore our farm shop SHED and enjoy 10% off alpaca socks, blankets, and yarn—all made from fibre produced right here on the farm. You'll know exactly where it came from and the care that went into creating it.
