Join Lora Bertolucci and learn the fine art of coil basketry a technique for making baskets by coiling a material around a core and sewing it together, creating a spiral structure. Coil basketry is known for its flexibility and the ability to create a variety of shapes and designs
In this workshop Lora gives the traditional craft of basket coiling a fashionable twist and shows participants how to do the same. You will learn the fundamentals of coiling, have the opportunity to experiment with various materials and create a two or three dimensional object. Along the way, Lora will discuss many tips to assist you in achieving the results you want and finding your style.

Bio
Lora was raised in Toronto with her Italian immigrant parents. Her interest in textiles started young, while watching her mother sew. She then completed the Fashion Design degree program at TMU. With years of experience ranging from custom design wedding gowns to producing a knitwear collection, it was in 2020 when completing a Basket Coiling workshop with Ruth Woods that she found her calling within the textile industry. Basket coiling supports her values of sustainable and ethical fashion as well as satisfying her needs as a designer, maker and human.

Lora makes functional one of a kind bags and baskets using repurposed materials. Lora is passionate about teaching coiling as it is such a forgiving craft with endless creative options. She finds the process therapeutic and the more people repurposing textiles the better.  Her work can be found at Craft Ontario Shops.
