Saturday’s Workshop: Punch Hooking 101
Are you curious about the dynamic art of punch needle? This beginner’s class is the starting point for launching your personal journey with this versatile craft, which builds on the traditions of rug hooking, embroidery and traditional rug making. This hands-on 101 workshop will teach you the fundamental techniques of punch needle embroidery, using an Amy Oxford punch needle to create an illustration or patterns using loops of yarn or thread on fabric. You will learn: About punch needles and the different sizes How to select the right backing fabric and yarn for your needle Proper technique for using your needle and tips All material included, punch needle and hoops provided for workshop only.
Participants from the beginner’s class can sign up and continue their project next day at the:
Sunday Intermediate punch needle workshop & artist talk.
Spend the day punching, sparking creative conversations, and enjoying an artist-led talk about Betty’s journey into fibre art through mindfulness. She’ll be talking about developing her sense of style, choosing subject matter and her ‘slow’ approach to creating. If you’ve mastered the basics of punch needle and want to add more dynamism to your projects, this session is for you. We’ll explore using different Oxford punch needles to create relief and pile heights, developing your own visual aesthetic, and using different finishing techniques. Basic punch needle experience required, please bring your project and the supplies you need. Students from Saturday’s beginner’s class can continue their project at this collaborative workshop. More informal than the initial session, students can work independently with the tutor on hand to answer questions, make suggestions and offer demonstrations.

A wonderful day

Thank you for organizing today’s workshop with Betty. Everything was very welcoming and food was great. The room was perfect too. Betty is a wonderful teacher and the participants were fun too. I would definitely like to attend a second workshop with Betty at a later time.

Punch Hooking with Betty Wood

The workshop was tremendous with an excellent teacher, Betty, and her assistant. The venue was very hospitable with an abundance of food and a very lively group of participants. I came away with wanting to create more punch hooking designs. I would highly recommend this, or any crafts course, offered by Chetwyn Farms. Thank you Ted, Shauna, and Betty!!
